Oxford Analytica has published a new syndicated research study on Central Asia to enhance our clients’ understanding of this newly important region. Our study examines the key issues facing the countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, between now and 2012. Key issues include:

The prospects for economic liberalisation in each country.
The outlook for FDI in hydrocarbons and other natural resources.
The role of Russia, China, Iran, Afghanistan and the EU in the region.
The rising threat from Islamic radicalism.
How competition for water resources may destabilise the region.
The challenges of corruption, drug trafficking, and migrant flows.
Whether increased oil and gas exports mean more dependence on Russia, or less.
The extent to which the region will begin to diversify economically by 2012.
Whether living standards will rise sufficiently to forestall a wave of emigration.
