The project developed a comprehensive overview of the Chinese securities markets. Based on extensive research in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong, it undertook a critical assessment of the institutional and regulatory framework of the Chinese markets which was then contrasted with international best practices. An overview of the performance of the Chinese markets was accompanied by a discussion of the likely key drivers of its development in the future from the perspective of market participants and policy makers alike.
